  • Client Services at the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth provides services to individuals of all ages in Tarrant County and surrounding counties for the purpose of improving quality of life and assisting individuals with reaching their maximum potential of independence. This is accomplished by providing the following services

    Orientation and Mobility refers to the training in the skills necessary to travel safely and independently using a mobility white cane, guide dog and/or other navigation aids. This training includes instructions which enable the traveler to know where they are, learn where they wish to go and plan on how to independently get there safely.

    • Independent living training teaches skills required for an individual to function independently in life. Some examples include; cooking, organizational skills, laundry, home and time management, communication, and leisure and recreation activities. At the Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth, IL Skills training is offered. For more information on how to access this training please contact us. The Lighthouse for the Blind of Fort Worth believes strongly in community involvement and support. The Client Services Department is regularly involved in numerous blindness awareness events and other special projects. Adjustment to blindness support groups are offered on a regular basis at the Lighthouse. Blindness awareness presentations an many local schools, churches and other organizations are provided often at no charge. Additionally, the Client Services provide group blindness sensitivity training and group training activities.
