Mothers of premature infants cannot provide their own milk for a variety of reasons, including premature delivery, illness or medication use. The use of donor human milk has been proven to give these fragile babies a better chance of survival while decreasing complications. For some babies, donor human milk can truly be life-saving.
Through Mother's Milk Bank of North Texas, you can donate milk after you are checked off to become a donor.
How to become a donor: Screening, medical questionarre, blood draw, and milk drop off.
You can find a list of drop off locations under "donate" on the website.
In need of donor milk?
- Mothers’ Milk Bank of North Texas (MMBNT) dispenses milk to outpatient infants by prescription only. Milk is prioritized to hospitalized infants first and then to infants at home with a medical need. Parents can inquire about receiving donor milk whether the baby is about to be discharged from the hospital, or is already home. MMBNT will assist parents in filing insurance and obtaining coverage based on a sliding scale.
- Receiving milk for a healthy baby at home
From time to time, mothers need a little extra milk to help supplement their supply for their healthy baby. MMBNT’s priority is hospitalized infants and medically needy babies at home, but occasionally our supply of donor human milk allows us to serve healthy infants when a mother is struggling with her supply. For more information about receiving milk for your baby, please visit the website, click on "recieiving milk" tab to locate the contact info to inquire about filling this need.
