Amy's Wish With Wings is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides Equine Assisted Therapy to children with special needs. Our goal is to assist each child in reaching their full potential through the healing interaction with horses.
The success of equine therapy is neurological and bio-physical, our brain is constantly communicating with our body. The brain is always assessing its surroundings, making adjustments and compensating. Sometimes through injury or illness, those assessment and compensation pathways are impaired or change, creating a disability. Those pathways need to be strengthened and rehabilitated.” Michigan State University Extension educators contend that equine therapy is a viable activity that works to do just that.
Our mission is to provide equine assisted activities for children with special needs. This may include but is not limited to children with autism, down syndrome, brain injuries, cerebral palsy, victims of abuse, vision impaired, selective mutism and many others. These children benefit from the movement of the horse to stimulate the rider's vestibular system as it responds to balance signals, voluntary movement and speech. The horse provides an alternative therapy for children to build self esteem, learn sequential tasks & stay on tasks, empathy & promote stronger gross and fine motor skills.
