Intervention strategy:
This program consists of a comprehensive approach that includes evidence based strategies such as Early Start Denver Model, Naturalistic Teaching, and Discrete Trial Training with 20-30 hours per week of 1:1 ABA therapy within a center or home-based setting. Each child is individually assessed to identify the best approach for therapy prior to beginning therapy. ?Research shows that the children who are diagnosed with autism can make significant gains in global functioning including IQ, adaptive skills, communication, and social functioning when ABA therapy begins early.
School Advocacy and consulting:
The Helm can provide ARD advocacy by meeting with parents to review IEPs and/or attending ARDs. We believe that therapy does not replace school and through thoughtful collaboration between schools, parents and therapists all children can benefit from the basic right of an education. For any client who has been with The Helm for one year we will attend one ARD per year for up to two years after services have discontinued at no charge.
Behavior has the ability to change the culture of not only a classroom, but a school. At The Helm we understand the dynamics and needs of school districts and are ready to help you take even the most complex behavioral challenges head on. We believe through comprehensive assessments and precise staff training we can help your district decrease problem behaviors, increase safety and empower teachers.
Parent training:
Watching your child struggle with communication or behavior challenges can be frustrating, but figuring out how to help your child while meeting the needs of your entire family can be even more daunting. Through our individualized and continuous parent training, we can help you understand the function of your child’s behavior and equip you with practical strategies that can be used long after your child’s therapist has left.
Social skills training:
Calling all friends! The Helm’s social skills groups are a fun, safe place for kids to learn the essential skills to navigate our social world. Each session is individualized to meet the unique needs of the group.
