Young children might not yet have the language capabilities or desire to talk about their problems or struggles. Play therapy provides an outlet for children to communicate thru their play. Sessions may be non-directive, directive or a mixture of the two based on the child's needs.
A parent/caregiver interview will be scheduled prior to beginning treatment with your child to discuss family history, academic/social functioning, daily living and medical history. Concerns regarding your child's behavioral and emotional struggles will also be discussed, and a treatment plan will be formulated. (Note: your child will not need to be present at this session)
Sessions with your child will proceed at a determined frequency by Dr. Campbell.
Dr. Campbell works closely with parents/caregivers in order to best treat your child. She welcomes phone calls/emails from parents/caregivers in between sessions to provide updates on the child's functioning, as well as to ask any questions that may arise throughout treatment.
