Texas sponsors two programs to help families pay for insurance: The Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and Health Insurance Premium Payment (HIPP) program.Children in Texas without health insurance may be able to get low cost or free health coverage from the CHIP OR Children’s Medicaid. Families with children who get Children’s Medicaid pay nothing and children with CHIP pay no more than $50 a year for health care coverage.
HIPP helps pay for health insurance payments for families that have at least one person who gets Medicaid and can get insurance through a family member’s work. Your family can pick from more doctors and has more choices than with Medicaid alone.
