The program provides literacy-rich, child-centered classrooms with low child-to-teacher ratios, individualized care, healthy daily meals, abundant outdoor time, and social strengthening activities. Screenings for vision and hearing are provided and assist with maintaining wellness checks.

Full-day, year-round care - 6:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday for families that work full time or in school full time otherwise hours are 8 am to 4 pm weekdays.
To support the needs of working parents, Early Head Start offers full-day, year-round care as well as nutritious meals (breakfast, lunch and two snacks daily).
Priority is given to families or children who are: homeless or have been in the last 6 months, have special needs with an IEP or ECI plan; parents who have substance abuse or mental health issues or are incarcerated, teen moms, single parent homes, full employment or school, CPS involvement, foster children or children placed with relatives, English as a second language and families in which parents have a 12 grade education or less.
There is often a waiting list and place on list is determine priority. Children may qualify for 3 years in Early Head Start or 2 years in Head Start. Case managers are provided who assist families with resources and mental health specialists assists in classroom and with home and school plans.
