A “client-choice food pantry” which allows for individuals seeking food assistance to choose the products they bring home to their families. Clients may make an appointment once a month and come into the food pantry to pick the products that they like to eat.
* they carry a core list of items based on nutritional guidelines from the North Texas Food Bank, like canned fruits, vegetables, and proteins, beans, grains, meat, and eggs, along with various donated items such as bread, frozen meals, and produce.
*trained volunteer “shoppers” walk through the pantry with the clients and help explain what items they may place in their cart based on the size of their family and what they have in stock.
*the food pantry includes an isle called ‘Margot’s Kosher Corner,’ providing individuals who adhere to kosher dietary laws with access to kosher meat, as well as seasonal items such as Kosher for Passover food and other holiday essentials.
*the food pantry also allows for clients to meet with a Case Manager to help meet other needs available throughout the agency.
